The Story of the Painting

I painted "Summer Flowers," a large watercolor, in early summer from flowers I grew in my garden and arranged in a vase which belonged to my Mother who loved to garden. The flowers in this painting include Daylilies, a Dutch Iris, a Gladiolus and an Asisatic Lily. The Dahlia (which is said to represent elegance and dignity) stands out like the summer sun. In the language of flowers, Iris are said to represent wisdom, faith and hope, Lilies refined beauty and the Daylily is the Chinese symbol for Mother. The Gladiolus flower signifies remembrance. It also stands for strength of character, faithfulness and honor. It is a perfect flower for Mother's Day.

The flowers in this design represent lots of good thoughts and the cards are printed on the finest paper. The Gladioli bulbs are easy to grow, and will return in future years.

About the Gladioli Bulbs

There are three bulbs. Each bulb will produce a flower plant which will grow up to 40 inches tall with showy colorful blooms that will come back year after year. The planting season begins about mid-April. It takes about 70 days for the plant to bloom.
